"TEAM OWATONNA" WILL COMPETE AT STATE"

The Owatonna Greco/Freestyle Wrestling team will be traveling to the MN/USA State Wrestling Tournament this Friday through Sunday.

This year the team has a new look and a new name. The new look is a lot more wrestlers qualified this year and the new name of the team is "Team Owatonna." The team will wrestle in 19 brackets at the 3 day event.

It is tournaments like this that wrestlers can do well at, qualify for Regional/National, and even the National Greco/Freestyle Wrestling Tournament. When kids wrestle in the USA program, keep doing well as they get older, that is when they can even get invited to Olympic wrestling camps. It's a big goal but a lot of kids are always thinking of that!

Qualifying for the Greco Division are:
Cadets, Nick Scheffert, Coyte Kuefner, and Logan Barrett School Boy, Jake Woodrich Novice, Brandon Moen, Tanner Thomas Intermediate, Christian Scheffert

Qualifying for the Freestyle Division are:
Cadets, Ben Anderson, Nick Bergan, Scheffert, Kuefner, and Barrett School Boy, Brenden Buryska, Tyler Sorenson, Tyler Vogt, and Woodrich Novice, Moen and Thomas Intermediate, Christian Scheffert.

Owatonna Wrestling Post Season Continues
The Owatonna FS/Greco Wrestling Club traveled to 2 tournaments last weekend.

All tournaments including Apple Valley, Owatonna, and last weekend at Stewartville are qualifying tournaments for the MN/USA Kids/Cadets State FS/Greco Wrestling Tournament.

At Stewartville -
1st Place wrestlers were, Brandon Moen, Tanner Thomas, and Brenden Buryska.
2nd Place finishers were, Tyler Sorenson, Tyler Vogt, and Ben Anderson.
3rd place were, Nick Bergan and Kaden Cloud.
Other wrestlers that have already qualified at previous tournaments are Trevor Thomas, Bowen Schultz, Jake Woodrich, Christian Scheffert, Coyte Kuefner, Nick Scheffert, and Logan Barrett.

At Augsburg College -
The Owatonna Jrs. Age Bracket traveled to Augsburg to compete in the Jrs. State Greco Tournament on Saturday and the Jrs State Freestyle Tournament on Sunday. The Jrs. bracket consists of 9th through 12 graders at specific weight classes.

On Saturday Hector Millan was the lone wrestler to finish in the placing round. Millan finished in 6th place in Greco. Other wrestlers competing but not placing were, Tyler Thomas, Coyte Kuefner, Nick Scheffert, and Logan Barrett.

On  Sunday Nick Scheffert was the lone wrestler to finish in the placing round. Scheffert finished in 4th place in Freestyle. Other wrestlers competing but not placing were Kevin Tokar, Millan, Thomas, Kuefner, and Barrett.

This weekend the club travels to the Forest Lake Open FS/Greco Wrestling Tournament to prime up and get ready for the State Tournament to follow the next weekend in Rochester at RCTC on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

At Cedar Falls, IA - The Owatonna MN/USA Wrestling Club traveled to the 
2009 Asics USA Folkstyle National Championships.

Owatonna had 10 wrestlers make the trip and we brought home 4 All-Americans!
1st Place National Champion/All American, Bowen Schultz (5-0, 3 pins). In the Semis Bowen had to wrestle against Morgan Parriott of New Praque, who had defeated Bowen 6-5 in the MN State Finals. Bowen totally controlled that match and won by pin at 2:59.
In the National Finals match, Schultz won 3-2 over Zach Nelson, Illinois.

4th Place/All-American, Nick Scheffert (5-2, 2 pins)
7th Place/ All-American Coyte Kuefner (5-2, 2pins)
8th Place/ All-American Justin Flores (3-3, 1 pin)
